Threw down this mix of recent and not-so-recent tracks the other day. It gets a bit progressive and also sci-fi spacey, so the title is a nod to the classic and/or cliched "disk jockey taking you on a journey" trope. Of course the galaxy destination name came from wurd.

There are now at least two iOS apps that allow you to DJ using Spotify - Pacemaker and djay.

I find this really intriguing; I really like the idea of having such a huge catalogue to draw from. I also really like the idea of not having to manage/buy/own all the music I DJ with; being able to focus solely on selection, playlisting, curation, could be really liberating.

Note that it appears you need to be a Spotify Premium subscriber for this to work.

On the other hand, this could open the floodgates to "do you have youtube on there" requesters too ..

I'm entering the Refuel/OUSA Future DJ Comp on thursday (4th Sept, Refuel) night. It's a cool format, 15 minutes to do your thing, so no mucking around, but not juggling/scratching/ITF type situation (3 minutes!) (which I can't do).

So be there!

And, saturday night, back at Alibi again, looking forward to it, always a good night, I'm sure you'll be there....

BOO YA
Since bringing up the issue of song-destroying monotonous electro remixes, I have gone out and shown my support for the track by buying the old-arse not relevant original mix from that dang beatport.

Just before I did this, I found a presumably old remix competition which had the parts of the song freely downloadable (128k mp3)! Great!

The bonus is that now that I realise the original doesn't have much of an intro, I might be able to give it one with a bit of looping of some of those parts. And I keep the smug "I actually bought this" warm fuzzy feeling.

Slightly curious is that one of the parts is kick and it seems to be eight minutes of kick drum (with gaps for breaks of course). (The others are vocal, bass, drums and music.) I guess this is house music; the kick is pretty important right?

Cheers, Remix Mag and Gabriel & Dresden.
